How Hajj Journeys Have Evolved

Hajj and Umrah journeys have been of utmost importance in a Muslim person’s life. The fifth pillar of Islam demands Hajj to be performed and thus fulfill its religious obligation. Following this decree, hundreds of thousands of Muslims gather at Mecca to perform Hajj. The number of pilgrims was not as much as they are in the recent years as there have been a lot of changes made in Hajj and Umrah journeys; Hajj 2014 is no different.

While earlier people used to walk hundreds to thousands of miles to the holy city of Mecca, flights and other means of transport have made the journey towards Mecca simpler and swifter in the decades gone by.

Pilgrims used to carry their food and essentials by themselves in the long voyage towards the city where Hajj has to be performed. Now, Hajj and Umrah packages are offered by many travel agencies which make it easy and comfortable to perform the religious obligations without qualms.

Earlier, due to a lot of crowd gathering near the holy shrine, there have been stampedes reported while performing Hajj. This has also been checked by committees made specially to monitor the arrangements made for smooth procession of Hajj and Umrah.
